私のサイクリングのトリップです！

こんばんはみなさん！

このポストは私のイースターポストです！　ああ、すみません。ぼくはパフェクシュニスツからブログのポストは一番インポタントです。だから。。。

私のイースタの休みはとてもたいへんでした！　うん、大学生の休みはよくひまけど、私は。。。おもしろいです。しゅみはサイクリングから、じてんしゃでとてもほそながいりょうこをします。三月からじゅうがつまで、ーか月に二回がじてんしゃで七十マイルします！　[ウォーレンヅンス] に行きました。いつもミシガンの「田舎」でじてんしゃをします。しずかで、一番きれいなところですね。私はまちの人ですが、やさいのファームは「平和的」なことしです。
木曜日の晩、インタネットによると天気ははれで、すずしそうです。HA！　でも、私は元気な人です。そして、木曜日の晩はきれいでした。金曜日の朝、八時半に起きました。水を読んで、チェリオスを食べて、出かけました。私の「ルート」　ちょっとながいが、ロードは小さかったです。ノートルダムからバートランドまちまで私はうれしかったです。はれていました！でも、風がふいていました。本当に風はとても「強力」なものですね！それから、ぼくのうんどうはたいへんでした。そして、ルートの半は土だった！
サウスベンドからウォーレンヅンスまで三時間ぐらいかかりました。ワウ！　ラークミシガンは大好きことしですね！水は暑くて、あおかったです。そして、「ターワーヒル」は高ったです！でも、ウォーレンヅンスで風がふいていました！　ビデオを見ます。タコベルで昼ごはんをたべて、私のタコはおいしくなかったから、四時に私は「飢えた」でした。だから、「往復旅行」はたいへんで、はれのちくもり時々雨がふっていて、風がふいていました！　The wind was against me on the way there and the way back! How does that happen!! I think I biked uphill both ways too?!?

私の金曜日はおもしろかったです。田舎はきれいけど、あのルートはちょっとたいへんです。

こんばんは！今日、オバマさんのスピーチが一番　重要な(important)スピーチです。　先年は たのしいじゃありませんでした。せかいのリセッションは　新しいでした。そして、日本のエコノミーは　とてもよくありませんでした。　あそさん (日本のPrime Minister)と　オバマさんをはなして、トピック(topic)は　日本とアメリカの“strong partnership”でした。ヨーロッパのエコノミーが　一番大きいエコノミーです。 カナダはアメリカのトレーディングパタナー一番大きいトレーディングパタナーです。でも、オバマさんのパートナーは日本でした→　日本は一番　好きな“友だち”でした。そして、あそさんは　オバマさんの　“first foreign leader received”です。
あきに日本で選挙(elections)がありました。日本の新しいPMは　はとやまさんです。はとやまさんのビクトリーはとてもおもしろいでした(an electoral milestone).　選挙はfamiliarですか？？　；）

私のせんこうはせいじ学です。International relations has always interested me, particularly the interactions of different political entities under multinational umbrellas such as the WTO. Japan’s relationship with the US has always fascinated me and last year was particularly unique. Japan’s PM was Obama’s first visiting head of state, even before Canada and Mexico. Politics aside, Obama’s election as the first non-white President was an historical milestone. Less than a year later, Japan would have it’s own political milestone with Hatoyama’s DPJ ousting the LDP, the ruling party for the last 50 years! I guess my point- it’s not often that my major gets to intersect specifically with Japanese. Tonight’s State of the Union reminded me of the relationships the US has forged with neighbors, Japan being a particularly unique one. Sorry if my post was a little dull- I had to write at least one political post! ありがとうございます！

私のふゆ休み

私の休みは　とてもおもしろくて、たのしくて、ひまでした。シカゴから　ニューオーリンズまで ひこきで　にじはんかんぐらい　かかります。でも、私は　りょこうのが　好きです。モールで　ルイジアナのともだちとあいました。フードコートで　ひるごはんを　たべました。　チクフィルレは　おいしいです。クリスマスイブに　ぼくのうちで　パーティーを　して、ばんごはんを　たべました。ぼくの ははの　クリスマスの　ギフトは　ノ-トルダム大学の　スウェタでした。週末、ルイシアナのオペルーサス(a Cajun “capital”)に いって、ケージャン(Cajun) のたべものを　たべました。私は　ジャンバラヤや　ガンボや　えびが好きです。　ヌイアスのばん(New Year’s Eve)に　フィアワクスをしました。とても　たのしくて、にぎやかでした！　らい週の土曜日のごぜんよじに　ルイジアナのマルシュ(marsh)で　つりをしました。私の　大きいキャッチ(catch)は　さかなと　クラブでした。とてもたのしいです!

Tama, a calico cat, became famous for frequenting a failing train station in Japan. Because of her presence, she was honorarily promoted to "station master" (駅長), only increasing her notoriety. Due to increased travel, the station stayed open and today Tama has generated over 1.1BILLION yen for the area through merchandise! She also now has two "assistants," ちび　と　ミーコ。Check out the ビデオ. I caught some nouns, adjectives, and a couple -te form words!

スカベンジャー ハント

こんばんは！

今日、クラスは　ひまで、にぎやかでした。ぼくの　ハントのものは　中国の本で、あたらして、たのしいもので、大きくて、しずかじゃありませんもので、小さくて、みどりのもので、　しろいものでした。とてもたのしいですね。としょかんに　ぼくの　中国の本で、大きいものでした。あれは　エレバーターでした。あたらしものは　“iでんわ”でした。小さいものは　まつばで、しろいものは　先生のコンピュータでした！

私のサンクスギビングのやすみ

こんばんは！

ぼくのサンクスギビングは　たのして　とてもいそがしいでした。ぼくのルムメトはのうちに　かえりました。水曜日、じゅういちじはんごろ　ねて、あさひるごはんを　たべました：）。今日、私は　ひまでした(or so I thought)。ごごいちじごろ　ぼくの　リサーチの先生は　メールを　かきました--> “Davis, will you be here over the holidays? I’ve got a project for you.”そうですか...

ぼくのアルバイトは　せいじ学の　リサーチです。そして、ぼくの先生は　オランダ人です(I guess Dutch≠サンクスギビング　：P)。先生：”Could you analyze some data I’ve got. Election results for 30 European nations from 1945-present. I am thinking about writing a book on what a “flash party” is and I need you to find some examples for me.” ぼくのアルバイトは　とてもおもしろくて、むずかしいです。But I love int’l poli sci so it was a job I liked- plus influencing a 本 is pretty cool as an undergraduate！

木曜日、ともだちと　きたの学しょくで　サンクスギビングのごはんを　たべました。ぼくのともだちは　カバイシャン人です(Haitien)。あのごはんは　いいでした。

しゅうまつ、りょうととしょかんで　ばんきょうしました。テレビをみて、ごはんをたべて、そうじをしました。へやでゆっくりしました。Overall, ぼくのやすみは　いいでした。

私のアルバイト- Just a little bit of my work.

ぼくのしゅうまつ

おはよう！　ぼくのしゅうまつは　とても　いぞがしかったですよ。金曜日の　さんじごろに　アルバイトをしました。ヘスバグのセンターに　先生に　あいました。ぼくのアルバイトは　リサーチです。金曜日のばん、ペップラーリ(pep rally)に　いきました。　おもしろかったです。チポトレで　ばんごはんを　たべました。チポトレの　ブリートは　とても　おおきかったですね！ばんの　くじはんに　DPACに　日本のえいがを　みに　いきました。なめは　Still Walkingです。えいがは　よかったです。土曜日の　ばん、ドラムーのサークルに　いって　おんがくを　ききました。たのしかったですでも、かなしかったです。(last performance of the year) 土曜日のひる、ルットボールの　ゲームを　みました。ざんねんでした…. 日曜日のひる、としょかんで　ばんきょしました。そして、ぼくのへやに　そうじを　しました。

あきやすみ!

こんばんは！どもすみません　for my　ブログのやすみ！でも、ぼくの　あきやすみは　とても　おもしろかったです（for Baton Rouge at least).

チカゴから　バトンルーシュ(Baton

Rouge)まで　プランで　よじかんぐらい　かかります。（ぼくは　ルイシアナの　バトンルーシュ　からきました）。ぼくのうちは　ちいさいです。でも、ぼくのうちは　とてもたかいとふるいです(in ルイシアナ older houses are sometimes built on piers-たかい、ふろい- in case of flooding during hurricane season)。りょうりと　ぼくのいぬ（なめは Buddy) は　とても　うれしかったです！：）うちのきは　にじゅうに　レモンと　ろくじゅうさん　オランジュでした！！　ぼくのへやは　きれいでした（どもありがとう　mom!) ベッドのひだりに　ドヤです。そして、テレビのちかくに　ぼくのつくえです。ぼくのテレビは　ふるい　でも　いいです。にちようび、うちで　ばんごはんを　たべました。

げつようび、LSU大学で　ともだちが　あいました。学生かいかんで　ひるごはんを　たべました。ひるごはんは　あまりよくありませんでした：P。か曜日のひるいに　Buddyとぼくは　川レビイ(river levee)の上に　さんぽを　しました。もく曜日のばんに　ニューオーリンズで　パーチィをしました！！　まちは　とてもにぎやかでした！　きん曜日、バトンルージュのマール(mall)で　かいものを　しました。フヅ　コツ(food court)で　ともだちを　はなしました。マールは　あまり　りっぱじゃありませんでした　(see the しゃしん！）。

ど曜日、ノトルダムのスタヂウムで　フツバルを　みました。

せんしゅうまつ、きんようびの　ろくじごろ　おきました。たいてい　あさごはんを　たべません。でも、ぼくわ　シリアルと　ジュースを　たべました。じゅうじよじゅっぷんに　じゅぎょうがあります。ひる、joggingを　しました。NDHで　ひるごはんと　ばんごはんを　たべました。どようべの　ごぜんじゅういちじごろ　としょかんで　べんきょうしました。どようべに　いつも　LaFortuneで　ひるごはんを　たべます。フットボールを　みました。そして、リョウで　ふらんすごの　えいがを　みました。にちようびの　はちじはんに　としょかんで　べんきょしました。ばん、スタルバで　コーヒーを　のみました。そして、いちじはんごる　ねました。

おはよう！

Before I do my routine, I forgot to answer my own question from my last blog entry- くしカツ is the name of the Japanese kabob that I like so much. Below is a pic of one my roommate made a couple nights ago. A very international meal :)

まいあさ　ろくじはんに　おきます。まいにち　しゃわを　あびます。しちじじゅうごふんに　NDHで　あさごはんをたべます。げつようび、すいようべ、きんようべ、の　じゅうじよじゅっぷに　じゅぎょうがあります　（にほんご！）かようべ、もくようべの　くじはんに　じゅぎゅうがあります。ごじはんごろ　NDHで　うちで　ばんごはんを　たべます。まいばん　としょかんで　べんきょうします（１７credit hours:S)。ぼくは　ときどきばん　こひを　のみます。たいていばん　じゅういちじごろ　ねます。しゅうまつ、DPACで　えいがを　みます（I like independent films)。あのお、じゃあ　また！

So up above is my routine. I probably made a ton of mistakes but more or less: I wake up every morning at 6:30, shower, get breakfast, go to class at 10:40 MWF (Japanese!) and 9:30 TR. I get dinner at NDH around 5:30 and study every evening in the library, thanks to my 17 hour schedule this semester. I sometimes get coffee and usually go to bed around 11:00. On weekends I like to go see movies at DPAC b/c I've always liked independent films. Ok, that's it for now.

ぼくは　あめりかじんです。LouisianaのBaton Rouge からきました。ぼくは　Notre Dameだいがくの　さんねんしい。ぼくは　せいじがく　と　ふらんすごの　せんこうです。

Hello! Well that's my intro in Japanese :). As for the title of this post, I wasn't sure what to call it so I looked up "Chapter 1" at the beginning of the book haha. Anyway, just to be careful since I'm still pretty new to all this, I am a junior here at ND and I'm a double major in Poli Sci and French. My name is in hiragana is ろおらあ but I was able to type it in katakana up at the top! My first name is Davis.

Picking one aspect of Japanese culture to focus on is pretty tough but I'd have to pick food since I love to eat haha. Sushi is great but on of my favorite things that my roommate cooks for me are these lightly battered kabobs. I'm not sure how Japanese they are but he's from Tokyo so at least you could say there's an influence! I'm not sure what they're called, I should probably ask him before I post a pic just to be sure. hmmm, I'll be back in just a bit...

The First Entry...

おはよう！

My name is Davis and this is my Japanese blog for fall 2009! I've never actually made a blog but hopefully I'll get better at it as I go along. Until then though I'll do my best to try and add pics and different things.

A little about me-> I grew up in Baton Rouge, LA. I'm a French and Poli Sci double major and I'm in my third year here at ND. I have a strong interest in int'l relations and law and I'm hoping to get accepted to law school out west. Two of my roommates are from right around here in the Midwest and one is from the Tokyo suburb of Tsukuba. That brings me to why I chose Japanese...

At the beginning of summer 2008 I decided that I wanted to travel out to Japan and visit my roommate for a week. Coincidentally my cousin, a prof at Columbia, was also in Japan for the summer teaching some courses at a university in Tokyo. Thus, with the timing impeccable, my roommate and I decided it would be fun to spend a few days in downtown Tokyo staying at her apartment before going out to his house, a couple hours outside the city. As such I worked all summer to get the plane tickets and by the time late July rolled around, I was on my way to Narita int'l. After boarding the JAL flight at Los Angeles International, I could tell things were going to be very different. I thought the country was incredible. Other than a senior trip to Paris and a study abroad in Quebec (and my time here at ND), I had never really left the South before. Amazingly, despite what my roommate would try and throw at me, I found the food to be pretty good! The culture was fascinating- we did everything from testing out new technology on Odaiba Island to participating in a tea ceremony to even dining at a country noodle house near my roommate's hometown. On my last day there we decided to climb up the side of a mountain and visit a Shinto shrine near a summit. Of course we pulled fortunes while we were up there and luckily my roommate told me I had gotten a "best" category one. Before leaving, it struck me how much I had liked the trip despite how hurried it had felt.

I've always wanted to learn another language but I could never decide what path to pursue. I already know French, something that comes in handy with my European studies classes and being from Louisiana. Spanish of course has its usefulness. But then again why learn something that doesn't spark a real interest? I can always pick up another romance language but I probably won't have the time again to learn something as challenging as Japanese. So that's why I chose to study it. I like taking on new challenges- one of the reasons I decided to leave home and come up here to ND- and I'm looking forward to learning something completely different from anything else I've learned before.
